Using AI Translation

Frontitude’s AI Translation transforms the way global companies localize their products with a continuous, design-driven process that eliminates back-and-forth exchanges and improves translation quality.

How it works

AI Translation is a machine translation (MT) engine tailored for UX content. It leverages visual design and your copy library to craft accurate translations in no time.

With Frontitude, since content originates from the design tool, we can extract visual design information for each text element and classify its purpose by analyzing the parent design component, screen type, and user journey (when applicable).

Additionally, AI Translation leverages previously approved translations from your copy library. It retrieves similar content, analyzes the terminology and structure, and incorporates them into the generated translations. This ensures consistent translations without the need to manually maintain a translation memory!

This feature is part of a design-driven localization process you can build using Frontitude, ensuring high-quality translations and an efficient, seamless workflow.

Activate integration

Frontitude’s AI Translation is an official integration that should be activated from your workspace settings:

  1. Go to Workspace settings -> Integrations.
  2. Turn on the Frontitude AI Translation integration.

Add your target languages

You’ll need to define the target languages in which you’d like to manage translations:

  1. Go to Workspace settings -> Localization -> Target languages.
  2. Select a languages you'd like to define as a target language. Make sure to pick a language with the correct locale ID.
  3. Click Add language.
  4. Repeat until all desired target languages are added.

Set your source language

Using AI Translation requires setting a source language. This enables Frontitude’s LLM to understand the source language of your translations:

  1. Go to Workspace settings -> Localization -> Source language.
  2. Pick your source language from the dropdown.

Creating copy components

AI Translation works with copy components to save translation costs and distinguish UX content from the rest of your design content.

You’ll need to create a copy component for every piece of UX copy that you want to translate with this feature. Learn more about copy components in this guide.

Trigger AI Translation

Once everything is set up, AI Translation will be triggered upon content finalization in Frontitude, whether done from the Figma plugin, Frontitude project, or copy library.

  1. Once you're happy with the text, set its status to Final.
  2. AI Translation will be triggered in the background, generating translations in all target languages within seconds.
  3. Translations will be set to Review status, ready for human review.

Invite translators for post-edit

AI Translation crafts highly accurate translations, but it’s always better to keep a human in the loop to review and apply any necessary adjustments.

Frontitude works well with in-house translators or external agencies and freelancers. Follow these steps to invite translators:

  1. Open the project that requires post-editing.
  2. Switch to the reviewed language from the language dropdown at the top bar.
  3. Click Share from the top bar.
  4. Click Invite project collaborators.
  5. Enter the translator email and click Send invitation.

The translator will then be able to access the project and review the generated translations:

  1. Click the link from the invitation email.
  2. Open the project that requires post-editing.
  3. Switch to Hybrid View, which is ideal for post-editing.
  4. From the filter bar, select Translations -> Pending translation.
  5. Review the list of generated translations and finalize them alongside their visual context, and submit fixes through the editing panel if needed.
