Create copy components automatically by finalizing text

Improvement

We’ve made it even easier to save content to your library for localization and developer handoff. Now, whenever you switch a text to “Final” status, a copy component is automatically created for you.

Here’s how it works:

  • Finalized texts are automatically converted into copy components and stored directly in your library under the Uncategorized section.
  • From there, you can quickly add a unique key, organize with tags, and move the component to the appropriate category in your library.

This new feature simplifies your workflow, saves time, and ensures no content gets overlooked. 🌟

Hide non-copy texts from Figma

Improvement

Managing UX content often involves the challenge of separating copy from non-copy text elements. We’ve just added a new option in the Figma plugin to hide (or exclude, if you prefer) non-copy text elements.

This feature allows you to filter out noisy non-copy texts right from the start, creating cleaner lists for review, approval, or translation—all within Figma. We hope you like it!

🐞 In this version, we also fixed the following bugs in the copy library:

  • Submitting a change with a note to a library component ignored the note.
  • @mentions in the library component note input didn’t work.

💫 Faster copy library and general improvements

Improvement

We’re excited to share another update packed with functional and performance improvements designed to enhance your experience and streamline your workflow. Here’s what’s new:

📚 Faster copy library

We’ve rebuilt the library’s infrastructure to support large-scale libraries containing tens of thousands of components.

  • We’ve reduced library loading time by 70%!
  • We’ve also fixed slowness when navigating large libraries with lazy loading, ensuring a smoother navigation experience.

💫 New features and improvements

  • Bulk multi-select with shift: Select multiple texts at once in any list view in Frontitude for faster, easier editing.
  • Filter component instances in projects: Filter library content for collaboration or hide it for a cleaner view when drafting and editing new content.
  • Display component notes in language view: Translators can now view component notes in language views, which can be used as an effective way for briefings.
  • New project export column: “Component name”: See the name and full library path of component instances in exports for better clarity.

🎨 Figma plugin updates

  • Figma native notifications: We’ve switched to using Figma’s native notifications for info, success, and error messages. This change provides a cleaner experience without toast messages occupying significant portions of the plugin window.
  • Edit tags for multiple texts: You can now edit tags for multiple texts directly in Figma, simplifying various use cases, such as enabling designers to classify content into segments seamlessly within Figma.

🐞 Bugfixes

  • Copy library's suggestions tab fix: WeYou can now exclude text instances properly when creating components from suggestions.
  • Component-level tag filtering in exports: Filter settings now reflect correctly in exported files.

That’s it for now! We’re gearing up for 2025 with some exciting announcements on the way. Stay tuned.

🖥 Faster content editing with the new 'Hybrid View'

Improvement
New feature

It’s finally here! You can now go over a list of texts and quickly open them directly within the design. This view combines the best of both design and list views, making it easier and faster than ever to go through a list of texts.

💫 Copy library overhaul: More than a dozen of updates released

Improvement

We’re excited to ship the largest update we’ve ever delivered to the copy library. This update includes critical features that will help you build and structure your library quicker, and use it more efficiently on the go.

Here's what's inside:

Create blank categories. We've added the option to add categories and subcategories from scratch! This allows you to strategize your library's structure and build its backbone using categories, even before you have any components.

⚡ Category suggestions in attach box. This feature allows you to quickly find the right category when you create a new component using the attach/create box. Additionally, we’ve added the option to create the component by pressing the Enter key.

🗑️ Delete categories. Categories can be deleted, finally. Using this one, you can clean up your library and prevent drop-downs in Frontitude display ghost categories.

🔍 Category filter bar. If your category tree has grown extensive, this new filter in the library navigation bar will help you quickly locate the category you're looking for, regardless of its level within the category tree.

🗄 Collapse categories. Reduce clutter and enhance focus when browsing content in your library by collapsing categories. The collapsed state is saved, allowing you to customize your library view.

🗂️ Uncategorized components tab. Access all your uncategorized components in one place. Use it as a starting point to organize and categorize your components efficiently.

🔠 Category names are case insensitive. It means that “Buttons” equals “buttons” when referring to categories. No more forgetting how you named a category and accidentally creating a duplicate. From now on, using “Buttons” and “buttons” (or any name) will refer to the same category.

⬅️ RTL support for category notes. Whether you prefer writing your notes in Arabic, Hebrew, or any other RTL language, you can now enjoy proper display and formatting.

We've also mixed in a few improvements and squashed a few bugs:

  • 🐞 Fixed: Attach search box doesn't support components' library path (categories)
  • 🐞 Fixed: Locked layers in Figma prevent content from being synced
  • 💫 Create a new component from the attach/create section by pressing Enter
  • 💫 Empty categories are displayed in the copy library
  • 💫 Category nav bar indentation has been increased to highlight the hierarchy between categories
  • 💫 Attach search box is case-and-space insensitive for smoother category search experience
  • 💫 If Figma frames turn into components, texts are migrated instead of getting deleted

Hope these updates will elevate your copy library workflows to a whole new level!

💫 Improved import and export, and more!

Improvement

This time, we're enhancing Frontitude's import and export features to support more use cases:

🪆 Nested JSON File Support in Export and Developer CLI. Now, you can export your projects and library content, and pull updates from the Developer CLI into a nested JSON file. Developers who store their strings in a nested JSON format will love this! Learn more

📥 Import Copy Components from a CSV File. Importing content to the copy library now supports CSV files. This means you can export content from Frontitude into a spreadsheet, edit it or send it for translation, and then import all updates in just a few clicks. This is useful for teams that use an external vendor for translations! Learn more

We've also made some improvements and fixed a few bugs:

  • 🐞 Fixed: Copy library search now filters according to the component's value, not its path
  • 🐞 Fixed: Importing from JSON file no longer ignores translations
  • 💫 When moving multiple copy components between categories in the copy library, the selection bar is closed to avoid confusion
  • 💫 Improved clarity of error messages throughout the app
  • 💫 Now displaying the actual language name when importing from a JSON file, instead of "Source Language."

Hope you enjoy this update!

🔗 Improved attach experience and other improvements

Improvement

We're continuing our revamp of all things search-related in Frontitude, and this time, it's the turn of the copy component attach feature!

Attach now offers an improved search algorithm that is:

  • Case insensitive
  • Word order tolerant
  • Includes ranked and sorted results
  • Includes search on unique key and library path

Additionally, we've squashed a few bugs and made some improvements:

  • 🐞 Fixed: Text changes that appeared in the Changes tab in the Figma plugin and could not be synced
  • 🐞 Fixed: Error that occurred in library load when components include corrupted text instances
  • 🐞 Fixed: Editing panel crashing when texts include variables with special characters
  • 💫 Export to file is now enabled from projects and library in the Starter plan

Excited for these updates? We certainly are!

🪄 Similar component suggestions

New feature

We're excited to release Similar Component Suggestions in Beta!

Over the past couple of months, we've been integrating new infrastructure to enhance your ability to efficiently manage your copy library and ensure consistency across your content.

These suggestions will show up in every content editing panel in Frontitude, enabling you to:

♻️ Quickly reuse content. By displaying a list of similar copy from your library, you can efficiently reuse content and maintain consistency.

💡 Draw inspiration from your library. With these suggestions, you can take a sneak peek at your library without even opening it, to get a glimpse of your content style.

🚗 Drive consistency. Surfacing similar content from your library improves consistency as it lowers the friction in using the same content style.

To view suggestions, just select any text in any of your Frontitude projects and see the magic happens! Make sure that you have a critical mass of components in your library beforehand.

ℹ️ Quick notes
  • As we are still fine-tuning this feature in its beta phase, we'd love to get your feedback. Use the Feedback box below the suggestions list to let us know what you think. 🙏
  • Currently, these suggestions are calculated by the text value and metadata similarity. Soon, we plan to add more ways to generate suggestions... Stay tuned!

Quick way to create components and design preview improvements!

Improvement

This update is all about improvements for our Figma plugin:

⚡️ We've added a quick way to create copy components out of text duplicates in Figma. When syncing is completed, a list of component suggestions is displayed to help you create copy components faster.

🎨 The plugin now supports FontAwesome icons and recognizes them as icons, not text. If you use FontAwesome in your designs, this means cleaner projects and better design previews.

💯 Several improvements were added to the design preview algorithm, generating a more authentic preview in Frontitude.

Improvements and bug fixes

Improvement

We've spent the last couple of weeks to improve the experience in different areas across the platform.

Developer Integration

  • You can now install the Developer CLI using Yarn.
  • All JSON export keys are now sorted alphabetically from A to Z.

Copy Library

  • We've added an option to detach instances from the Design Explorer. You can find this option from Component > Options menu > View all instances. This makes it easy to remove irrelevant texts from a copy component.

  • We've introduced a new Open in Figma button next to screens in Frontitude projects. This allows you to quickly open the corresponding frame in Figma. To make this work, simply set the Figma file URL in the plugin after syncing frames.
  • Tags are now sorted alphabetically, making it more manageable when you have a large number of tags for a text or copy component.
  • CSV export now mirrors the project view order, making it easier to determine the export order and work with it.

Bug Fixes

  • We fixed the drag-and-drop functionality for screens in the project navigation bar.
  • Navigating screens in Design View using keyboard keys is now fixed. Previously, pinned screens messed up the screen order.

Improved auto-attach, import translations, and more!

Improvement

We're happy to share with you this new pack of improvements to streamline your Frontitude workflows and integration with your design, development, and localization processes!

Upgraded auto-attach mechanism 🔗

We understand the importance of seamless sync with your designs. Our team has worked tirelessly to improve the way it attaches new texts to existing copy components: Now, if you have multiple components with the same text, it uses the Figma component hierarchy to match it with the copy component that shares that same parent Figma component!

Screen names auto-update on sync 🔁

Our Figma plugin now syncs the latest frame names to Frontitude, unless they have been renamed previously. This keeps your Frontitude project in better sync with the design file.

Import translations from localization systems ⤵️

It is now possible to override existing text values, whether it is the original text or the translation. This lets you update translations in Frontitude, test them on the design, and soon preview them in Figma.

CSV export: Merge component instances ⤴️

When exporting projects into CSV files, you can now merge component instances together into one row. This means that you can have one row per text, even if it repeats in the project.

CLI improvements 💻

We released a few improvements and fixes to our Developer CLI:

  • Android XML format bugfixes - We fixed a few issues with variables and escaping characters.
  • When merged to the strings JSON file, keys are sorted alphabetically. This makes it easier to understand what keys were added or removed.
